Save money by going hrough the entire house to find places which are letting warm air escape from the heated spaces inside the house. Places to check first are doors, windows and fireplaces which often are the culprits, letting the inside air out and the cold outside air in. A handy way to see if the air is escaping is blow smoke around suspected areas and see if it goes outside. Once these places are located you will need to seal them. While some sealing jobs are in the DIY category for bigger jobs call in one of our experts to help.

Use your bathroom fans and the kitchen hood fans as little as possible during cold spells and the winter months. Surprisingly a bathroom fan can suck all the heated air out of an average house in about an hour!

If there are rooms in the house that are seldom used you can save money by not heating them unless necessary. Simply close the heater vents and the door for these rooms.  

If you only use a couple of rooms in the house reguarly, reduce the thermostat settings in those rooms to about 65 degrees and use a space heater to as needed.

Your heat pump, furnace or other heating devices work best when they are in top condition. Signing up for our maintenance agreement will save you money and give you peace of mind. 

Don't fiddle with the themostats, turning them up to a higher temperature does not cause the room to heat any faster. So set thermostats to the desired temperature and leave them there.

It makes sense to turn the heat back when you're asleep or not at home, but turning it down too low can actually cost you more because the contents of the house have to be re-heated when yout turn it up again. Many smart savers set their thermostats at 68 to 70 degrees while they're home and awake, and 60 to 65 degrees while they're asleep or not at home.

There are programmable thermostats which will automatically change the temperature settings at selected times.

If you don't have double glazed windows use the blinds and curtains to help heat the house by opening the blinds and curtains on the sunny side of the house when the sun is shining and close them as soon as the sun goes down. Heavy lined curtainswith extra folds (fullness) can serve as insulation on your windows to prevent heat from escapeing and cold air from seeping in.
